For the past 1 year i have been learning carnatic music with my Guru Nalini Anantharaman. Her daughter, Mrs Bhavadhaarini, is a professional carnatic singer and one of the few female singers who performs Bhajans (devotional songs). The purpose of Bhajans concerts (Namasankeertanam) is to make the people sing, or even dance, and praise the Gods. The lead singer is usually accompanied by few other people, and so Bhavadhaarini usually takes some of her students with her for performing the concerts. On October 23rd, 24th and 25th i had the privilege to participate in 3 concerts in Mumbai.

We were staying in a tamil community in Govandi.

Between the concerts we managed doing some shopping on Gandhi Market and Chembur Market.

On Monday 26th i stayed alone in Mumbai to do some sightseeing while the rest of the group was travelling back to Chennai by train - which is much cheaper than flying, but takes more than one day.

I was staying in Bentley’s Hotel, near the Taj Hotel and Gateway of India, for 1450Rs per night...quite expensive, but clean, very quiet and the staff is friendly (except reception).
I hired a taxi for one day for 1200Rs incl. sightseeing tour, A/C, waiting time and drop at domestic airport. Some of the ‘attractions’ were the Taj Hotel (still under renovation after the terrorist attacks of 26.11.2008), Gateway of India, Nariman Point (area of business and luxury hotels), Mumbai Stock Exchange, Victoria Station (the first place in India where i have seen people in a hurry running), Post Office, High Court, Mumbai University, Fashion Street, Mani Bhavan (where Mahatma Gandhi stayed for many years) Chowpatty Beach (very dirty...), the Hanging Gardens, Hard Rock Café Mumbai (very friendly staff), etc.
